Chengyao Zhou was born in 2007 in China, and is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music with Christopher Elton under a full-scholarship. In February 2024, at age 16, she won third prize and the prize for the best performance of the commission by Lera Auerbach in the Hastings International Piano Competition. During her studies at the Juilliard pre-college in New York from 2019 to 2025, she won the Concerto Competition twice and was runner-up twice, performing Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3, Ravel Concerto in G major, Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 and Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. She was also the first prize winner of the Grand Metropolitan International Piano Competition in 2019, the Fifth Manhattan International Music Competition in 2020, and the Nordmann and Bachauer Piano Scholarship Competition in 2022. She has performed twice at Carnegie Hall and twice at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Lincoln Center. She continues to perform, collaborate, improvise, and compose for film music.
